Offense Struggles As UB Men's Hoops Falls At St. Anselm, 67-61
Team Will Return To Action At Home On December 30th Versus Stonehill
Manchester, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team could not find its rhythm on offense on Tuesday afternoon in a the team's final game before the 2017 Holiday Break, as the Purple Knights fell to the host St. Anselm College Hawks, 67-61, in a non-conference tilt. UB is now 9-3 overall, and the host Hawks up their season mark to 8-3.
On the day, Bridgeport shot only 36.1 percent from the floor hitting 26-of-72 field goal attempts. The 61 points are a season low for the Purple Knights who entered the game averaging 94.1 points scored per outing.
In the first half, UB lead 24-16 with 7:51 to play in the opening stanza, but St. Anselm closed out the half on a 17-7 run to grab a 33-31 lead at the break.
Trailing 59-51 with 4:35 to play, Bridgeport went on a 10-4 to pull to within two with 1:38 to play and had a chance to at least tie the game at 63-63 but missed a shot with 1:03 to go and could not score the rest of the way, as the Hawks went on to score the final four points of the afternoon to seal the win.
Senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) led UB in scoring with 20 points, and classmate Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fell just shy of a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing a team-high nine rebounds.
The UB men's basketball team will return to the court on Saturday, December 30 when the Purple Knights host Stonehill College in a non-conference game in Hubbell Gym. Tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
