Men's Basketball Blows By NYIT, 131-101
Team Finishes Just One Point Shy Of Tying All-Time Single Game Record For Scoring
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team had its offense in full effect on Saturday afternoon, as UB moved to 8-1 on the season with a 131-101 East Coast Conference win over the visiting NYIT Bears. The win is UB's third win in a row and lifts them to 2-0 in conference play. The Bears are now 2-7 on the season and 0-2 in ECC action.
Saturday's 131 points were one point away from the Purple Knights all-time, single game school record of 132, set in a matchup against Stonehill College during the 1988-89 season.
Eight UB players reached double-digit scoring led by senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, NY) with 16 points in only 16 minutes played.
Junior Dennis Green (Bronx, N.Y.) was next on the UB scoring list with 15 points of the Purple Knights' bench, which chipped in a total of 70 points on the day.
Bridgeport junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) had a fine all-around game for the winners finishing with a double-double of 14 points and 10 assists, plus Trumbo was a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor including hitting three, three-point shots.
Sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) was also a perfect 5-5 from the floor, as he netted 13 points.
Freshman Nemanja Zubac (Becka Palanka, Serbia) scored a season-high 11 points, and classmate Yasir Lawrence (Elmont, N.Y.) also had 11 points in the victory.
Rounding of the list of double-digit scorers for the Purple knights were juniors Vaskas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.), who each finished with 10 points.
Bridgeport did an excellent job of sharing the basketball on Saturday, as the team dished out a season-high 30 assists.
14 of the 15 UB players that saw action in the game scored.
The UB men's basketball team will be back in action this coming Friday, December 15 when team will play host to Roberts Wesleyan College in an ECC contest. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. in the Harvey Hubbell Gymnasium.
