Purple Knights Race Past LIU Post, 97-70, In 2017-18 ECC Men's Basketball Opener
Team Shoots 50 Percent From the Floor On The Night
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team opened its 2017-18 East Coast Conference schedule at LIU Post on Wednesday night, and the visiting Purple Knights cruised to a 97-70 win over the host Pioneers. With the victory, the Purple Knights raise their overall season record to 7-1 and move to 1-0 in the ECC. LIU Post slips to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference action.
The Purple Knights only trailed once in the contest at 6-4 and raced out to a 47-24 halftime lead. On the night, UB shot 50.0 percent from the floor hitting 35-of-70 field attempts and also went 50.0 percent from behind the three-point arc, as the team knocked down 16-of-32 shots from distance.
Senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights is scoring with 15 points, hitting 5-of-8 field goals, including 4-of-6 three-point shots. Joseph was joined in double figures by classmate Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) who netted 13 points hitting 4-of-6 field goals including going 3-of-4 from behind the three-point line.
14 of the 15 players that saw action for Bridgeport scored points in the contest, as each Purple Knight had at least three points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team returns to Hubbell Gym of an East Coast Conference tilt versus NYIT on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Fans can receive free admission to the game by bringing a new and unwrapped children's toy that will be donated to Bridgeport's Cardinal Shehan Center.
