Six Purple Knights Reach Double-Digit Scoring As Men's Basketball Moves To 5-0 With A 101-88 Win At Bloomfield
Team Back In Action On Sunday Afternoon At Jefferson University
Bloomfield, N.J.-For the second straight game, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team defeated a team ranked in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Top-25 for NCAA Division II, as the Purple Knights, who were in the receiving votes category last week in the NABC Poll, moved to 5-0 on the season with a 101-88 road win over the number 17 ranked Bears of Bloomfield College. With the loss, the host Bears are now 4-1 on the season.
Six players reached double-digit scoring for the winners led by senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who scored 23 points, 18 of which came in the first half, as UB raced out to a 56-40 lead at the break.
Sam was joined in double figures by classmate Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) with 16 points, sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.), who finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds, freshman Travis Morgan-Robinson (Elmont, N.Y.) with 11 points and juniors Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.) and Eric Rankin (Bronx, N.Y.) each finished with 10 points.
Cobb finished just shy of a double-double, as he had nine assists. On the afternoon, Bridgeport finished with a total of 24 assists on the team's total of 42 made baskets, as the Purple Knights shot 53.8 percent from the field going 42-for-78 in the game. Junior D'Vonne Trumbo (Pilesgrove, N.J.) also chipped in eight assists on the day.
Saturday's game marked the second time in five contests so far this season that the Purple Knights have scored at least 100 points.
It will be a quick turnaround for the UB men's basketball team, as the squad will face another stern road test on Sunday afternoon as the Purple Knights travel to Philadelphia. Pa. to face Jefferson University. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in the City of Brotherly Love.
