Five Players Reach Double Figures As Purple Knights Move to 4-0 On The Season
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team moved to 4-0 on the season on Sunday afternoon, as the Purple Knights topped the previously unbeaten and number 18 ranked in the country, Merrimack College Warriors, 98-79, to wrap up the 2017 LIU Post Conference Crossover Classic on Long Island. With the loss, Merrimack is now 4-1 in 2017-18.
Senior Sharif Cobb (Harlem, N.Y.) led a balance Bridgeport scoring attack that saw five UB players reach double figures with 20 points. The Purple Knights shot the ball extremely well on Sunday connecting on 58.7 percent of their field goal attempts (37-of-63).
Cobb was joined in double figures by junior Vakas Iqbal (Staten Island, N.Y.), who notched a double-double with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, senior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 13 points, junior Eric Rankin (Bronx. N.Y.) added 11 points off the UB bench and sophomore Bakary Camara (Harlem, N.Y.) had 10 points for the winners. Joseph also had a game-high seven assists on the afternoon.
Up next, the Bridgeport men's basketball team will travel to the Garden State of New Jersey to face Bloomfield College on Saturday, November 25. Tip-off is slated for 2:00 p.m.
