UB Men Cruise to 105-81 Home ECC Win Over Roberts Wesleyan
Purple Knights Can Clinch A ECC Tournament Semifinal Berth With One Win In Last Two Games
Bridgeport, Conn.-University of Bridgeport junior guard Carlos DeJesus (Bronx. N.Y.) scored a season-high 24 points, and four of the Purple Knights' five starters reached double-digit scoring, as the UB cruised to a 105-81 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on Monday evening. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 17-9 overall and 12-4 in conference play. UB has won six games in a row and 10 of its last 11 outings. RWC falls to 3-23 overall and 2-15 in conference play.
The Purple Knights set 2016-17 single-game highs in points (105), made field goals (42) and assists (27) on Monday night.
DeJesus, who also had six assists and three steals on the night, was joined in double figures by classmates Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) who had a double-double with 19 points and game-high 10 rebounds plus four blocked shots and six assists and Stefano Osuji (Voorhees, N.J.) with 14 points, plus junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 12 points.
The Purple Knights' other starter, sophomore D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) had eight points to just miss giving the winners all five starters in double-digit scoring.
UB junior Phillip Lodge (Boston, Mass.) also had a season-high nine points for the winners.
Isaiah Lewis led RWC with 16 points, and teammate Tristan Brown fell just shy of a triple-double with 13 points, nine assists and eight rebounds.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team closes out its 2016-17 regular season home schedule on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m., when they host LIU Post in a Senior Night contest in Hubbell Gym. A win on Wednesday by the Purple Knights would clinch a bye into the semifinals of the 2017 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament that will be played in Bridgeport's Hubbell Gym beginning on Saturday, March 4th.
