UB Men's Basketball Renews Rivalry With New Haven And Defeats The Host Chargers, 72-64
Kyle Benjamin Leads UB With 18 Points And 10 Rebounds
West Haven, Conn.-For the first time since February of 2008, the University of Bridgeport and the University of New Haven men's basketball teams faced each on the court in a non-conference contest on Monday night, and the visiting Purple Knights used a strong second half in which they led by as many 16 points with 9:52 to play to defeat the host Chargers, 72-64. With win, Bridgeport is now 13-9 overall, and UNH is now 12-11. UB led 31-29 and outscored UNH, 41-35, in the second half to pick up the victory.
Senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx. N.Y.) led the winners with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. Benjamin now has 13 double-doubles so far this season.
Kyle was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Montana Mayfield (Philadelphia, Pa.) and junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who each netted 14 points, and junior Marc Campbell (Elmont, N.Y.) had 11 points.
Kessly Felizor led New Have with game highs in points with 18 and rebounds with 13.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action at home on Wednesday night when the Purple Knights host St. Thomas Aquinas in East Coast Conference action. Tip-off in Hubbell Gym is set for 7:00 p.m.
