Men's Hoops Back In Win Column With Four-Point Triumph At Caldwell University
Purple Knights Now 3-2 So Far This Season After 87-83 Win For First Road Victory Of 2016-17
Caldwell, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team got back in the win column on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights picked up their first road victory of the 2016-17 season and snapped a two-game losing skid defeating the host Caldwell University Cougars, 87-83, in New Jersey. UB is now 3-2 overall, and with the loss, Caldwell slips to 4-2 on the season.
The Purple Knights got off to another slow start on Saturday, as they trailed their hosts, 8-0, before rallying to grab a 44-39 halftime advantage which they never relinquished. Bridgeport led by 11 points, 79-68, with 3:53 to play, but Caldwell battled to come to within one point, 84-83, with 20 to play before falling by four points when the final buzzer sounded.
Junior Marc Campbell (Elmont, N.Y.) led UB in scoring on Saturday with 18 points off the bench.
Seniors Stefano Osuji, playing in his home state, (Voorhees, N.J.) and Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.), each had 15 points for the winners, and Benjamin notched his fourth double-double in five games so far this season, as he grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Caldwell's Derek Dorn led all scorers on the afternoon with 29 points.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will play game number four of a tough five-game road trip tomorrow afternoon at Holy Family University. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. in Philadelphia, Pa.
