Senior Kyle Benjamin Records Third Double-Double Of The Season As Men's Hoops Is Nipped At Merrimack, 88-86
UB Now 2-2 Overall On The Season
N. Andover, Mass.-The second straight day, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team tried to rally from a big deficit but came up short, as the Purple Knights were nipped by the host Merrimack College Warriors, 88-86, on Sunday afternoon in Massachusetts. The Purple Knights are now 2-2 on the season, and the Warriors raise their overall mark to 3-1.
The Purple Knights got off to slow start on Sunday trailing the hosts, 9-0, and UB was down by 22 points, 63-41, with 18:22 to play in the second half. The visitor would battle back though to take an 82-80 lead with 3:11 to go in the game, before the Warriors finished the contest on an
8-4 run to seal the victory.
Bridgeport senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scorers and rebounders on the day with 25 points and 15 rebounds for his third double-double of the season.
Benjamin was joined in double-digit scoring by four teammates, as Sam Joseph (Jr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) had 20 points, Carlos DeJesus (Jr., Bronx. N.Y.) chipped in 13 points plus junior Marc Campbell (Elmont, N.Y.) and sophomore Rakim Lesane (Coney Island, N.Y.), each had 12 points.
Ryan Boulter led four Merrimack players in double figures scoring with 22 points.
