UB Opens 2016-17 Men's Basketball Season With 80-70 Win Over AIC
Team Comes Back From 8-0 Deficit To Start The Game To Pick Up The Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team overcame a slow start, as the Purple Knights trailed the visiting American International College Yellow Jackets, 8-0, 2:37 in play in the 2016-17 season opener for both teams, to post an 80-70 victory in the UB Men's Basketball Crossover Classic.
UB junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) lead all scorers in the game with 22 points , as he connected on 7-of-11 shots from the floor including going 4-of-6 from three-point range.
Joseph was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Carlos DeJesus (Bronx. N.Y.) with 12 points apiece and sophomore D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) with 10 points.
Benjamin finished with a double-double grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds, plus he blocked two shots.
DeJesus spearheaded a Bridgeport defense that forced 23 AIC turnovers with four steals.
Juwan Moody led five Yellow Jacket players in double figures with 21 points.
Both teams are back in action on Sunday in the UB Men's Basketball Crossover Classic as AIC takes on Holy Family at 2:00 p.m., and Bridgeport faces Southern Connecticut State at 6:00 p.m.
