Men's Basketball Falls In Annual Exhibition Contest With Fairfield University
Purple Open The Regular Season Next Saturday At Home Versus AIC
Fairfield, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team played its annual exhibition game with its Division I neighbor from just down Interstate 95, the Fairfield University Stags on Friday night in Fairfield's Alumni Hall. The Purple Knights, who led by as many as five points during the first half and trailed 35-30 at the half, fell victim to s red-hot shooting performance by the host Stags in the second half, as they scorched the nets with a field goal percentage of almost 62 percent in the final 20 minutes to outscore the visitors, 59-26, and pick up a 91-59 victory.
Senior Kyle Benjamin (Bronx, N.Y.) and junior Sam Joseph (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring on Friday night, as they each netted 11 points.
Fairfield's Tyler Nelson led all scorers in the game with 28 points.
On the boards, sophomore D'Vonne Trumbo (Franklinville, N.J.) led UB with seven rebounds, and senior Stefano Osuji (Voorhees, N.J.) chipped in six rebounds.
Up next, the UB men's basketball team will open its 2016-17 regular season on Saturday, November 12 when the Purple Knights face American International College in the UB Conference Crossover Challenge. Tip-off in Hubbell Gym is set for 6:00 p.m.
