Purple Knights Back In Win Column With 98-74 Home ECC Men's Basketball Victory Over UDC
98 Points Are A 2014-15 Single Game High For UB
Bridgeport, Conn. - The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team basketball scored a 2014-15 single-game, season-high for points on Wednesday night, as the Purple Knights got back in the win column after seeing their seven-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 98-74 home East Coast Conference victory over the visiting University of the District of Columbia Firebirds. UB, winners of eight of its last nine games, is now 10-4 overall and 6-1 in conference play. UDC falls to 2-13 overall and is 2-5 in the ECC.
Senior Willie Williams III (Norwalk, Conn.) had an outstanding night for the winners recording his sixth double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 rebounds in only 24 minutes of playing time. Williams also chipped in five assists and had five steals plus blocked one shot.
Bridgeport dominated play inside on Wednesday night scoring 52 points in the paint and outrebounding the Firebirds, 41-32.
Junior Ernest Rouse (Freeport, N.Y.) was next in scoring for UB with 18 points. Williams and Rouse were joined in double digits by three other Purple Knights to give UB five players in double-figure scoring in the win, as juniors Eddie Asamoah (Calgary, Canada), Devon Elliott (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Jesse Jones (Irvington, N.J.) had 16, 15 and 12 points respectively. Asamoah added seven rebounds, and Elliott added five assists on the night, plus Jones contributed three assists and one steal.
Up next, the UB men begin a three-game road swing with their final non-conference game of the regular season at Goldey-Beacom University on Sunday afternoon. Game time in Delaware is set for 2:00 p.m.
