Men's Hoops Runs Winning Streak To Seven With 72-55 Victory At Dowling
Senior Darian David Leads Purple Knights In Scoring With 21 Points
Oakdale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team upped its winning streak to seven games and the Purple Knights have now won 11 of their last 12 outings, as UB defeated Dowling College, 72-55, on the Golden Lions' home court on Long Island on Saturday afternoon. Bridgeport is now 14-8 overall and 10-2 in the East Coast Conference. Dowling falls to 7-12 overall and 4-7 in the ECC.
Trailing 17-12 with 7:43 to play in the first half, the Purple Knights closed out the first half on a tear outscoring Dowling 18-9 to take a 35-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. UB also held the Golden Lions scoreless over the first 5:18 of the second half on the way to the victory.
Senior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport and all scorers on the day with 21 points. David scored 13 points in the first half and connected on five of nine three-point shots.
Darian was joined in double figures by juniors Ivan Simic (Belgrade, Serbia) with 15 points and JoJo Swift (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 14 points.
UB's Omari Howard (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) was a beast on the board for the Purple Knights grabbing a game-high 12 rebounds.
Leon Taylor led three Dowling players in double-figure scoring with 12 points.
The UB men's basketball team is back in action on Wednesday evening at home when they will look to extend their winning streak to eight versus Mercy College. The game, which will be broadcast live by Pack Network on the web as part of its East Coast Conference Doubleheader of Week package, is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym.
