Men's Basketball Rolls Past NYIT On The Road, 92-73
Darian David Leads UB With Game-High 24 Points
Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team closed out the 2011-12 by cruising to a East Coast Conference 92-73 road win over the host New York Institute of Technology Bears on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UB is now 17-9 overall and 12-4 in conference play. NYIT is now 11-14 overall and 8-8 in the ECC. The win by the Purple Knights avenges a 79-75 overtime home loss to the Bears in January.
UB led 44-31 at the half and never looked back as its lead ballooned to as many as 25 points during the second half.
Junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led all four Bridgeport players in double-figure scoring, plus he led all scorers in the game with 24 points. Joining David in double figures for the Purple Knights were senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.), who had a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds, junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) with 15 points and senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 10 points.
Dominic Scurry led three NYIT players in double figures with 20 points.
The Purple Knights will now open play in the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday night, February 29, at home versus Molloy College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Hubbell Gym. UB enters the 2012 ECC Championship as the number three seed, and Molloy is the number six seed. Wednesday night's winner will advance to Saturday night's conference semifinal which will be hosted by Queens (N.Y.) College.
