UB Dominated The Glass Ending The Game With A 62-29 Advantage On The Boards
Bridgeport, Conn-Junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead four University of Bridgeport players in double figures, as the Purple Knights cruised to an easy 81-49 win over the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans in UB's 2011-12 home regular season finale on Wednesday night. With the victory, UB is now 16-9 overall and 11-4 in the East Coast Conference. With the loss, STAC falls to 8-17 overall and 4-1 in the ECC.
The 49 points scored by the Spartans is the fewest points allowed in a single game by the Purple Knights this season.
Joining Rodriguez in double-figure scoring for Bridgeport were senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 16 points, senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) fell just shy of a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds and junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) with 11 points.
Omari Howard (Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport on the glass with 11 rebounds, and he also chipped in eight points.
The Purple Knights dominated the boards on Wednesday night, as UB outrebounded St. Thomas Aquinas by a whopping 62-29 mark.
UB now hits the road to close out the season at NYIT on Saturday afternoon. Game time on Long Island is set for 2:00 p.m. After Saturday's regular season finale, the Purple Knights will host a quarterfinal game in the 2012 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament on Wednesday night, February 29 against an opponent to be determined.
