Strong First Half Helps UDC To 89-66 Victory Over Men's Basketball
Loss Snaps Tree-Game Winning Streak For The Purple Knights
Washington, D.C.-The University of the District of Columbia Firebirds raced out to a fifteen point halftime lead, 45-30, and they were never challenged in the second half, as the Firebirds cruised to an 89-66 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UDC, ranked number 22 in the nation in Division II men's basketball, is now 21-3 overall and 12-2 in conference play. UB is now 15-9 overall and 10-4 in the ECC. The loss also snaps a three-game winning streak for the Purple Knights.
Brandon Herbert led three Firebirds in double-digit scoring with a game-high 24 points. UDC senior guard Nigel Munson was just shy of a triple double with 21 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. Dyrek Jones blocked 10 shots on the afternoon for the winners.
Bridgeport was led by senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 17 points. Harrison was joined in double figure by junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) with 12 points, and senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 11 points. Junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for UB.
The Bridgeport men will close out their 2011-12 regular season home schedule on Wednesday night in Hubbell Gym when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
