Men's Hoops Holds On For 66-65 Road Win Over Molloy
Darian David Leads Purple Knights With 20 Points
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team raised its overall record to 14-8 and its East Coast Conference mark to 9-3 with a tight 66-65 road win over the host Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night. Molloy is now 7-15 overall and 4-8 in the ECC. The Purple Knights have now won back-to-back games and four of their last five contests.
Molloy opened the game on a 5-0 run and led the Purple Knights by one point, 19-18, with 4:52 to go in the first half before UB closed the first 20 minutes of play on a 13-2 run to take a 10-point, 31-21, lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Lions would then rally in the second half to take a 47-46 lead with 10:59 to play in the game before the Purple Knights would rally to hold on for the one-point win.
Bridgeport junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led all scorers in the game with 20 points, 17 of which came in the first half. David, who also had five assists on the night, was joined in double figures seniors William Harrison (Bronx. N.Y.) with 15 points and Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 10 points, all of which came in the second half. Junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) had a strong all-around game for UB with eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots.
John Petrucelli led three Molloy players in double-figure scoring with 18 points.
The Bridgeport men are back in action at home on Saturday afternoon when they host the Queens (N.Y.) College Knights. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. Saturday is also "Donate Life" day in Hubbell Gym with proceeds from the game through ticket sales and many fantastic raffles going to the Donate Life Connecticut group to help raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.
