Bridgeport Rallies In Second Half To Hand C.W. Post Its First ECC Men's Basketball Loss Of The Season, 88-86
UB Comes Back Form 15 Down In The Second Half To Top ECC-Leading Pioneers
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team rallied back at home from trailing by as many as 15 points in the second to hand East Coast Conference leader, the C.W. Post Pioneers, their first conference lass of the season by a score of 88-86. The victory raises the Purple Knights overall record to 13-8, and UB is now 8-3 in conference play. C.W. Post is now 15-5 overall and 9-1 in the ECC.
Trailing 58-43 with 18:06 to play, the Purple Knights came back to take a 63-61 lead after a layup by senior Dante Menter (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 12:24 to play.
The Pioneers would then come back to take six-point, 77-71 lead with 5:21 to play, and C.W. Post held an 80-76 lead with 3:14 to play before Bridgeport closed the game on a 12-6 run to grab the win.
UB took the lead for good with 1:26 to play when junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) connected on a layup after a steal to give his team an 82-81 lead.
Junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) led the winners with 22 points, and he also added seven assists and eight rebounds.
Rodriguez was joined in double-figure scoring by classmate Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) with 22 points, Antoine with 18 points plus nine rebounds and four blocked shots, and senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points.
Junior Omari Howard (Bronx, N.Y./Bridgeport Central HS) led UB on the glass with 10 rebounds. Bridgeport held a 45-36 advantage over CWP on the boards.
C.W. Post's Stefan Bonneau led all scorers in the game with 21 points, as he connected on 7-of-11 three-point shots.
The Bridgeport men are back in action at Molloy on Wednesday night. Game time on Long Island is set for 8:00 p.m.
