NYIT Rallies Past Men's Basketball In Overtime, 79-75
UB Now 10-7 Overall And 5-4 In Conference Action
Bridgeport, Conn.-The NYIT Bears rallied from as many as 14 points down with 3:49 to play in the first half and withstood the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights tying the game at 68-68 with 2.7 seconds to play on shot by junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) to send the game in to overtime to post a 79-75 East Coast Conference win on Saturday afternoon. NYIT is now 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play. The loss snaps a three-game UB winning streak, and the Purple Knights are now 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the ECC.
David led Bridgeport with a game-high 25 points, and he was joined in double figure-scoring by junior Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) with 15 points and senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 13 points. Junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds (10 offensive) for the Purple Knights.
Dominic Scurry led a balance NYIT attack with 21 points, and he also grabbed 11 boards.
After shooting 45.7 percent in the first half (16 of 35), Bridgeport went ice cold in the second half hitting only 9 of 33 shots (27.3 %) and only 3 of 10 shots (30.0%) in overtime. NYIT hit 50.0 percent of its shots in the second half (14-of-28) and went an impressive 4 of 5 (80.0%) from the floor in overtime.
The Purple Knights are back in action on Wednesday night at St. Thomas Aquinas when they open a two-game East Coast Conference road swing.
