Junior Darian David Explodes For 38 Points To Lead UB To An 81-68 Road Win At SCSU
Purple Knights, Winners Of Four Of Their Last Five Games, Are Now 7-5 On The Year
New Haven, Conn.-Junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) exploded for a season-high 38 points to help lead the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team to an 81-68 road non-conference win over the Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Friday afternoon. The Purple Knights, who have now won four of their last five games, up their overall record to 7-5 on the season. SCSU falls to 6-5 overall.
David scored 20 points in the first half to help give Bridgeport a 42-39 lead at the break, and he them chipped in 18 points in the final 20 minutes of action. Darian got UB off to a quick start in the second half when he opened the frame with a four-point that quick upped the team's lead to seven points just 16 second into play. The Purple Knights outscored the Owls 24-13 in the first 13:06 of the second half to grab the team's largest lead of the day, a 16-point, 68-52 advantage, with 6:54 to play.
Joining David in double figures for UB was senior William Harrison (Bronx. N.Y.) who contributed 18 points.
Freshman Pierre Koffi (Clinton, Md.), who returned to the UB line-up on Friday, was the leading rebounder in the game grabbing eight boards.
Trevon Hamlet led Southern Connecticut State with 24 points.
Friday's contest was Bridgeport's final non-conference tilt of the 2011-12 campaign.
Bridgeport returns to the court on Wednesday night at C.W. Post when the return to East Coast Conference action. Game time on Long Island is set for 7:00 p.m.
