UB Men's Basketball Raises Winning Streak To Three Games With 66-57 Home ECC Win Over Mercy
Purple Knights Open Second Half On A 9-0 Run And Never Look Back
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team upped its winning streak to three games and remained undefeated in East Coast Conference play with a 66-57 home victory over the Mercy College Mavericks on Saturday afternoon. With the win, UB is now 6-4 overall and 2-0 in ECC play. Mercy falls to 1-9 overall and 0-2 in conference action.
Trailing 30-28 at the half, Bridgeport opened the second half on a 9-0 run to grab a 37-30 lead which they never relinquished.
Junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 17 points. David was joined n double figures by classmate Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) with 14 points, and senior Eion Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) has a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.) also had 12 rebounds and added three blocked shots for UB.
Colin Senior led four Mercy players in double-figure scoring with 17 points.
UB dominated the game on the glass outrebounding Mercy, 47-37. 24 of Bridgeport's rebounds came on the offensive backboard.
The Bridgeport men's team is back in action quickly, as the Purple Knights travel to Post University on Monday night looking to run their winning streak to four games. Monday's game time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Waterbury, Connecticut.
