Second Half Rally Leads Men's Basketball To 66-58 Home Win Over U. of the Sciences
Purple Knights Comeback From 12 Points Down In The Second Half To Post Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team evened its season record at 4-4, as the Purple Knights used a strong second half comeback to post a 66-58 home, non-conference win over the University of the Sciences Devils (1-3) on Saturday afternoon. UB trailed by 10 points at the half, 33-23, and by as many as 12 points early in the second half before storming back to grab the victory which snaps a two-game Bridgeport losing streak.
The Purple Knights were red-hot from the floor in the game's final 20 minutes, connecting on 57.1 percent of their shots from the floor (16-of-28).
With the scored tied at 47-47 with 6:53 to play, Bridgeport closed the game on a 19-11 run to grab the win.
Junior Darian David (Bronx, N.Y.) led four Purple Knights in double-figure scoring with 19 points, 12 of which came in the second half.
Senior William Harrison (Bronx, N.Y.) with 12 points, and senior Eion Lewis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Lloyd Antoine (Brooklyn, N.Y.), each with 11 points, were the other players in double digits for UB.
Junior guard Hakeem Rodriguez (Queensbridge, N.Y.) was just shy of double-figure scoring with nine points, and Rodriguez also chipped in six assists and five rebounds. William Harrison led the Purple Knights on the glass with eight boards.
Tyrone Mann-Barnes led the Devils with 14 points on the day.
The Bridgeport men's team is back in action on Wednesday night at Dowling College when the Purple Knights open East Coast Conference play.
