Dave Boykin & Kelly Keil Named ECC Basketball Players of the Week
Both Helped The Purple Knights Go 2-0 Last Week
Central Islip, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport men's basketball player Dave Boykin (Grad., White Plains, N.Y.) and women's basketball player Kelly Keil (Sr., Sparta, N.J.) have been as East Coast Conference Players of the Week for their excellent performances in a pair of Purple Knights' win last week. Keil shared ECC Player of the Week honors with Thersa Dowling of St. Thomas Aquinas.
Boykin helped Bridgeport go 2-0 last week as he averaged 16.0 points and 4.5 rebounds. He also became the 28th player in University of Bridgeport men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 career point plateau on Saturday versus Queens. Boykin opened the week with 19-point, five-rebound performance in a road win over NYIT. Dave scorched the nets at blistering pace last week connecting on 56.5 percent of his total field goals (13 of 23) and 60.0% of his three-pointers (6 of 10). On the week, he also totaled five assists, one blocked shot and three steals.
Keil helped the Purple Knights go a perfect 2-0 on the week by averaging a double-double at 22.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. Kelly opened the week with a 20-point, five-rebound performance in a road win at NYIT. She closed the week out in fine style with a 25-point and aseason-high 17 rebound game versus Queens. She shot the ball extremely well on the week hitting 19 of 27 field goals (70.4%) and 7 of 9 free throws (77.8%). Keil also totaled four assists, five blocked shots and two steals on the week.
