Men's Hoops Raises Winning Streak To Three Games With 69-43 Victory At Molloy
Jermaine Washington Leads All Scorers With 15 Points
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team ran its winning streak to three games with a 69-43 East Coast Conference road victory over the host Molloy College Lions on Wednesday night. The Purple Knights overcame a slow start as they trailed 7-0 to open the contest. With the win, UB is now 8-7 overall and 8-2 in conference play. Molloy drops to 5-9 overall, and the Lions are an even 5-5 in ECC action.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led three UB players in double-digit scoring with a game-high 15 points. Washington also had six assists on the night. Jermaine was joined in double figures by junior Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.) with 14 points, and junior Donte Mentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) contributed 13 points off the UB bench.
Junior Moyan Henry (Bridgeport, Conn.) grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Bridgeport.
John Petrucelli led Molly in scoring with 12 points.
After their slow start, the Purple Knights came back to grab a 30-10 halftime lead, and then UB outscored the Lions, 39-23, in the second half.
Molloy's 43 points scored on Wednesday are a single-game season low for a UB opponent.
The Purple Knights are back in action at home on Saturday afternoon as the host NYIT in an East Coast Conference clash. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 3:00 p.m. The NYIT game is also "Donate Life" Saturday with all proceeds for the day going to the Donate Life Connecticut organization which is dedicated to raising awareness for organ and tissue donation. All fans in attendance will also have the opportunity to win a variety of fabulous prizes including New York Yankees tickets and several gift cards.
