Men's Hoops Prevails At St. Thomas Aquinas, 66-56
Purple Knights Now 5-1 In ECC Play
Sparkill, N.Y.-Playing its third game in four days, the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team raised its East Coast Conference record to 5-1 and its overall mark to 5-6 with a 66-56 road win over the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Saturday afternoon. St Thomas Aquinas falls to 2-9 overall and 2-4 in conference action.
Senior Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) led UB on the day scoring 17 points and just missing a double-double with nine rebounds. Cokley was joined in double-figure scoring by graduate student Dave Boykin (White Plains, N.Y.) who netted 13 points.
Free throw shooting made a big difference in the contest as the Purple Knights connected on 21-of-23 from the line; while St. Thomas Aquinas was only 12-of-21 from the stripe.
Both teams also had a tough time taking care of the basketball as St. Thomas Aquinas had 27 turnovers (16 of which came in the second half) and the Purple Knights had 23 miscues.
Sophomore Justin Brown led STAC scoring 19 points on the afternoon.
Bridgeport is back in action on Monday at C.W. Post University. Game time on Long Island is set for 7:00 p.m.
