Loss Drops Purple Knights Overall Record To 4-6 Heading Into Saturday's Game At St. Thomas Aquinas
Philadelphia, Pa.-Seven-foot junior center Temi Adebayo put back a missed shot at the buzzer to lift the host Philadelphia University Rams (7-5 overall) to a 72-70 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Thursday night. The loss drops UB, which led 35-30 at the half, to a 4-6 overall mark so far this season.
Bridgeport's Josh Martin (Philadelphia, Pa.), who scored 13 points on the night, tied the game at 70-70 with just 18.5 seconds to play in the second half when he hit two free throws.
Senior Jermaine Washington (Philadelphia, Pa.) led four Bridgeport players in double-digit scoring with 18 points. He was joined in double figures by graduate student Dave Boykin (White Plains, N.Y.) with 16 points, Martin with 13 and senior Tin Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 11 points.
Bridgeport had an excellent night from beyond the three-point line at Philadelphia, as the Purple Knights connected on 11-of 23 shots from downtown.
Philly's Jimmy Connolly, who hit five-of-six three-pointers, led all scorers in the contest with 21 points. As a tem, the Rams connected on 7-of-12 three-point shots.
Bridgeport returns to East Coast Conference action on Saturday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas. Game time is 3:00 p.m.
