Men's Basketball Returns To Action With A 67-55 Loss At UMass Lowell
UB Back In Action After 17-Day Layoff
Lowell, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport men's basketball team got off to a great start on Thursday night returning from a 17-day layoff scoring the first eight points of the game and leading 15-2 at the 15:06 mark of the first half, but the host UMass Lowell River Hawks stormed back to take a 67-55 non-conference win. With the loss, UB's third in a row, the Purple Knights are now 3-5 overall. The win is UML's fourth straight victory and the River Hawks are now 8-2 overall.
After the hot start, it was a tough night offensively for Bridgeport, as the Purple Knights went 19-of-54 from the field (35.2 %). UB also struggled from long distance hitting only 4-of-21 three-point shots and from the free throw line hitting 13-of-26 from the stripe (50.0 %).
The River Hawks also dominated the glass outrebounding Bridgeport by a 51 to 30 margin.
Junior guard Donte Mentor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights in both scoring and rebounding with 10 points and eight board off the bench.
UMass Lowell's Akeem Williams led all scorers in the game with 20 points.
The UB men are next in action on Wednesday, January 5th when they return to East Coast Conference play with a home game against Queens (N.Y.) College. Action gets underway in Hubbell Gym at 7:00 p.m.
