Men's Hoops Season Opens With 79-62 Home Loss To Assumption
UB's Josh martin Leads All Scorers With 23 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-Newcomer Josh Martin (JR, Philadelphia, Pa.) led all scorers in the game with 23 points, but it was not enough as the University of Bridgeport men's basketball team dropped its 2010-11 season opener at home to the Assumption College Greyhounds, 79-62, on Saturday afternoon.
Martin was joined in double-figure scoring by seniors Msoo Ikyaator (Nigeria, West Africa) with 12 points and Tim Cokley (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) with 10 points. Ikyatoor tied for the team-lead in rebounds with eight along with junior Chris Abney (Queens, N.Y.).
Assumption's Mike Baldarelli led all scorers in the contest with 19, and he just missed a double-double with nine rebounds. Teammate Tim Beinert did notch a double-double for the Greyhounds with 16 points and a game-high 12 boards.
Bridgeport is back in action at home on Sunday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. versus Southern Connecticut State who defeated Chestnut Hill, 77-57, on Saturday. Assumption will face Chestnut Hill at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday in Bridgeport.
