Bio

Ray Guarino enters his first season with the University of Bridgeport. He will work primarily with the pitching staff, and will assist in the day to day activities of the program. He will also be responsible for the defensive strategies as well as assist with the offensive side of the game. He comes to UB after a very successful tenure the  at Yale University ( 2010-2021 ).  During his time on John Stuper’s staff he worked primarily with the defense, and all defensive strategies. Yale led the NCAA in 2017 with a .985 Fielding Percentage. The Bulldogs also set a school record with 34 wins in 2017. Guarino helped the Bulldogs win a pair of Ivy Championships ( 2017, 2018 ) and a Regional Birth in 2017 to Corvallis, Oregon Regional, where they won 2 games, ultimately being ousted by then #1 Oregon State. During his time at Yale, he has seen 19 Bulldogs taken in the MLB Draft. His most memorable time at Yale was when President Bush ( George H. W. Bush ) invited the team to his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine.

In addition to his time at Yale, Guarino spent the summer of 2020 managing the New Britain Bees of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League ( FCBL ). Prior to that he was responsible for the Hamden, Ct Post 88 Hamden American Legion 19U squad ( 2013-2019 ). During the summer of 2019, his Hamden team was a final 8 team, advancing to the final round of the Ct Legion Southern Bracket. Over his time with the Hamden program, 20 players went on to play some level of collegiate ball. Guarino has over 20 years of college and high school baseball experience.  Before his career at Yale began, Guarino was an assistant coach at West Haven High School. He was an integral part in the Westies winning the 2009 LL State Championship and the New Haven Register’s #1 team in CT. The Westies finished with a ( 21-3 ) record. During the summer of 2021, Guarino will be an assistant coach with the Mystic Schooners of the (NECBL) New England Collegiate Baseball League, one of the top summer leagues for college players.

In addition to his coaching duties , Guarino has coached soccer at West Haven High School ( 1998-2013 ). Guarino is a 2000, graduate of Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in History. Guarino has been a teacher at All Saints Catholic Academy in New Haven since 2001. Prior to All Saints, the school was named St Rose of Lima, and St Francis/St Rose of Lima. He is a middle school History, Religion, and ELA teacher. During the winter months, Guarino is a member of Board 10, IAABO, New Haven County approved basketball officials. He has spent nearly 30 years working basketball games in the New Haven area both rec and high school games.  Guarino resides in Milford with his wife Jackie.
