MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – On Day Two of their spring break trip down south, the University of Bridgeport's baseball team dropped a pair of contests to Bentley on Saturday. The Purple Knights were defeated 17-9 in the opener before falling 11-5 in the finale.
A pair of huge late innings from the Falcons told the story in the sweep. Bentley put 10 across in the eighth inning of Game One and scored seven in the sixth frame of Game Two.
Jeremy Rodrigues led the UB offense with a powerful performance. The junior homered in both contests while finishing the day 4-for-7 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk.
Fellow junior Christian Ortiz also launched long balls in each game—a two-run shot in the opener followed by a solo bomb in Game Two.
Senior outfielder Jake Woods joined in the fireworks with a three-run blast in the first game.
In total, half of the Purple Knights' 16 total runs came from home runs.
Other notable performances from Saturday came from Anthony Matturro and Anthony Pascale in the first contest. Matturro went 2-for-2 while Pascale put together a 3-for-5 effort.
On the mound, Justin Nyarady posted a solid effort in the first game. The right-hander allowed three earned runs with five strikeouts in five innings.
