Caldwell, N.J.-Tuesday was another tough day on the diamond for the University of Bridgeport baseball team, as the Purple Knights were swept in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference doubleheader by the host Caldwell University Cougars, who won game one on a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth, 8-7, and completed the sweep with 17-8 victory in the nightcap.
With the two losses, Bridgeport is now 7-30 overall and 3-12 in conference play. The Cougars move to 11-21 overall and are 5-12 in the CACC.
UB sophomore Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) homered in both games and drove in three runs, and classmate Vin Mallon (Massapequa, N.Y.) had a nearly perfect day at the plate for the Purple Knights going 6-for-7 in the two games with five runs batted in.
It will be a quick turnaround for the UB baseball team, as the squad will look to get back in the win column at home on Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when Bridgeport hosts local rival Post University in a CACC contest in Seaside Park.
