Baseball Scores Six Runs In The Bottom Of The Ninth To Claim A 10-9 Home Win Over Staten Island
UB Walks It Off On A One-Out Bases Loaded Wild Pitch After Anthony Pascale's Two-Run Homer Ties The Contest At 9-9
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team staged its best comeback of the 2022 season at home on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Knights scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to claim a 10-9 East Coast Conference win over the visiting College of Staten Island Dolphins in Seaside Park. With the victory, UB is now 18-24 overall and 7-9 in the ECC. CSI slips to 9-23 overall and 2-13 in the ECC.
Bridgeport won the game on a walk-off, one-out, wild pitch in the ninth after sophomore Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.), who had three hits and three runs batted in on the day, tied the game at 9-9 with a two-run home run.
Earlier in the ninth, sophomore Jake Woods (Stony Brook, N.Y.) drove in a run, and graduate student Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) plated two of the three runs he drove in on the day with a double.
As a team, Bridgeport banged out a toal of 17 hits on the day; led by Pascale and Jacob Rich (Northwood, N.H.), who each had three base knocks.
On the mound, sophomore Jason Giambra (Milford, Conn.) picked up his fifth win of the season (5-0) with three innings of work in relief.
Up next, the same two teams will close out their three-game weekend series on Saturday with a 12 noon doubleheader at the College of Staten Island.
