Niagara Falls, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team came back to score five runs in the top of the seventh inning in game two of Saturday's East Coast Conference doubleheader hosted by the D'Youville College Saints on the campus of Niagara University to salvage a split of the two games with a 9-5 victory after dropping game one, 14-3. With the split, UB is now 10-15 overall and 2-3 in conference play. D'Youville is now 7-10 overall and 1-4 in the ECC.
In the decisive seventh inning of game two, junior Shane McCone (Milford, Conn.) tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI-single, and graduate student Stephen Giambra (Milford, Conn.), who had two hits in the contest, drove home what proved to the winning run with an RBI-fielder's choice.
In the nightcap, freshman Jeremy Rodrigues (Monroe, Conn.) went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. He also had an RBI in the opener.
Graduate student Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) had two hits and two runs batted in for the winners in game two, and sophomore Anthony Pascale (Stony Brook, N.Y.) also had two hits and knocked in a run for the Purple Knights.
Graduate student Andrew Francella (New Rochelle, N.Y) worked the first six innings of game two to pick up his team-leading third win of 2022 on the mound.
The same two teams will look to close out their three-game series with the rubber game of the set at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
