Old Westbury, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team moved into the winner's bracket of the 2019 East Coast Conference Championship on Thursday with an 11-6 win over tournament host. the NYIT Bears. UB, the number three seed in the tourney, is now 20-27 overall. NYIT, the number two seed is now 31-13 overall. Bridgeport will now play the winner of Thursday's second game between top seed LIU Post and number four seed Queens (N.Y.) College at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
As a team, the victorious Purple Knights banged out a total of15 hits led by junior Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.), who each went 4-for-6 at the plate. Rauso also drove in five runs for UB and blasted one of his team's three home runs on the day along with freshman Cory Listing (West Sand Lake, N.Y.) and senior Eamon Catherina (Ridgefield, N.J.).
Freshman Ryan Donnelly (Fairfield, Conn.) also had three hits for the winners.
Junior Jason Burger (Orlando, Fla.) earned the win on the mound for the Purple Knights firing his first complete game of 2019 to raise his season record to 4-2, as he fanned three and walked a pair of Bears.
