Baseball's Daren Grabowski Selected to Play In 2018 NEIBA All-Star Game
Grabowski And Teammate Tom Rinaldi Also Receive NCBWA All-East Region Honors
Boston, Mass.-The 29-man College Division roster has been set for next Thursday's 44th Annual New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) Joe Walsh All-Star Game, and University of Bridgeport senior, outfielder Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) has earned a spot in this collection of regional all-stars. The University Division squad, which is made up of the region's top Division I players, will be announced next week following the completion of conference tournament play.
The College Division team features 13 of the top Division II players in New England and 16 of the top Division III seniors in the region. The squad has players from 22 different institutions.
The 2018 NEIBA Joe Walsh All-Star Game is set for 12 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, R.I., home of the Boston Red Sox Triple AAA affiliate.
Grabowski's selection to the 2018 NEIBA All-Star Game caps off a fine senior season that saw him earn First Team All-East Coast Conference honors, as well as Second Team All-East Region accolades form the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Daren batted .325 in 2018 with a team-best nine home runs and 20 runs batted in. He led the Purple Knights with a total of 62 bases hits and 49 runs scored, plus he finished second on the team in stolen bases with 19.
Joining Grabowski on the 2018 NCBWA All-East Region team was graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.), who earned Honorable Mention All-Region at the Designated Hitter position. A First Team All-ECC pick, Rinaldi set a single-season UB record for runs batted in in 2018 with a total of 47.
