UB Baseball Opens Key Regular Season Ending Series With 7-5 Win At Mercy College
Same Two Teams Will Play A Doubleheader At The Ballpark At Harbor Yard On Friday
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up a key East Coast Conference victory on Thursday afternoon, as the Purple Knights scored five runs in seventh and one run in the eighth and ninth innings to notch 7-5 conference road win over the hos Mercy College Mavericks on Thursday afternoon in Westchester County. UB is now 12-31 overall and 9-12 in the ECC, and the host Mavericks are also 9-12 in conference play and move to 20-26 overall.
The Purple Knights broke a 0-0 tie with five runs in the seventh and posted single runs in the eighth and ninth innings to post the victory.
Graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) drove in two runs for Bridgeport, as did senior Mark Komaromi (Bridgeport, Conn.) in the win.
Junior Mark Hirschbeck (Trumbull, Conn.) had three hits and scored two runs on the afternoon for the winners.
Sophomore Jason Burger (Orlando, Fla.) pitched 8.2 innings to pick up his fourth win of 2018, and sophomore Jonathan Brooks (Stratford, Conn.) sealed the win with the final out of the game to earn his first save of the season on Thursday.
The same two teams will continue their key four-game ECC series with a Friday doubleheader at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport on Friday afternoon. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
