Sophomore Matt Alicki Work Seven Stron Innings On The Mound to Earn The Win
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team salvaged the final contest of a four-game weekend East Coast Conference series against the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans with a
7-2 win on a frigid Sunday afternoon at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 5-28 overall and 2-10 in conference play. STAC is now 24-9 overall and 10-2 in the ECC.
Senior Mark Komaromi (Bridgeport, Conn.) had two hits and one RBI on the day, and sophomore Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) also had two hits to help propel a nine-hit UB attack.
Graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) had a big blow in the game when he cleared the bases with a three-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning, and senior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) and freshman Conall Roberts (Mt. Laurel, N.J.) also knocked in runs for the winners.
On the mound, sophomore Matt Alicki (Milford, Conn.) was simply outstanding for the Purple Knights recording his first win of the season working seven strong innings in which he limited the powerful Spartans to only one run on six hits, as he fanned seven and walked four. Classmate Jonathan Brooks (Stratford, Conn.) put the finishing touches on the game working the final two innings.
Up next, the UB baseball team is slated to face the University of New Haven on Thursday afternoon.
