Baseball Picks Up First ECC Win Of 2018 With A 7-2 Victory Over LIU Post
Starter Andrew Oswald Fires Seven Innings Of Shutout Ball To Earn His Third Win Of The Season.
Brookville, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team used an excellent starting pitching performance from senior Andrew Oswald (St. James, N.Y.) and timely hitting on Friday afternoon to pick up the squad's first East Coast Conference win of 2018, a 7-2 win at LIU Post. UB is now 4-20 overall and 1-5 in the ECC. LIUP is now 13-10 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Oswald, who picked up his third win of the season, worked seven shutout innings in which he allowed only three hits with seven strikeouts and only two walks.
Senior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) led a 13-hit Bridgeport offensive attack with three hits and an RBI.
Graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) and senior Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) each had two hits and a run batted in for the winners, and sophomore Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) plus senior Isaiah Rivera (Newington, Conn.) and junior Mark Hirschbeck (Trumbull, Conn.) had the other UB runs batted in.
The same two teams will close their four-game conference series with a doubleheader tomorrow at LIU Post that will begin at 12 noon. The Purple Knights will play as the home team in both games on Saturday.
