Daren Grabowski Adds To Weekly Accolades With Selection As NCBWA East Region Hitter Of The Week
Senior Was Selected As ECC Player Of The Week On Monday
Bridgeport, Conn.-Along with being selected as this week's East Coast Conference Player of the Week, University of Bridgeport senior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) had been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America (NCBWA) East Region Hitter of the Week.
Grabowski and senior, right-hander Frankie Moscatiello (Rocky Point, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas College, have been selected as this week's East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter and Pitcher of the Week for their outstanding play in games taking place from March 12 through March 18, 2018.
The East Coast Conference Player of the Week, Grabowski hit in all seven games last week (including five multi-hit games) to extend his hitting streak to nine contests, as he went 15-of-32 at the plate which translates to a .469 batting average. He also blasted two home runs and drove in five last week as he posted a .750 slugging percentage and a .528 on base percentage from his lead-off spot in the Purple Knights' order. He also scored a whopping 14 runs and stole two bases on the week. So far in 2018, Grabowski is batting .372 and leads UB with five home runs.
Moscatiello, ECC Pitcher of the Week, had a big role in a pair of Spartans victories this week. On Tuesday, he picked up the save with three K's in STAC's comeback 8-6 victory at Catawba. Four days later, he was outstanding in the series opener at Southern New Hampshire, tossing seven scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out nine and winning a 2-0 pitchers' duel against the #20/21 ranked Penmen. The senior is now 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA, allowing just seven hits in 20 innings on the season.
