Altamonte Springs, Fla.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team split a doubleheader with the Bentley University Falcons in Florida on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights slugged five home runs in game one to post a 15-3 win, and in the nightcap, UB scored three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game at 7-7 only to see Bentley win on a walk-off home run. With the split, Bridgeport is now 2-15 on the season, and the Falcons now sit at 6-8 on the campaign.
In the opener, seniors Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.), Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) and Isaiah Rivera (Newington, Conn.) plus graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) and junior Mark Hirschbeck (Trumbull, Conn.) all slugged home runs for the winners.
Senior Andrew Oswald (St. James, N.Y.) picked up the win his second victory of 2018, work seven strong innings in which he allowed eight hits, two runs (both earned) and fanned four and walked only one.
In game two, senior Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) had two hits and three runs batted in; while Ben Torres had three hits and two RBI, and Daren Grabowski and Tom Rinaldi each added two more base knocks to their season totals.
The UB baseball will close out its 2018 Spring Trip to Florida on Sunday at 12 noon with a single game against Bentley to wrap up a four-game set between the two squads
