UB Baseball Falls At Unbeaten New Haven, 3-0
Team Begins Its Spring Break Trip In Florida At St. Leo On Saturday Night
West Haven, Conn.-It was another tough day on offense for the University of Bridgeport baseball team, as the Purple Knights were shutout for the second straight game, this time falling the host University of New Haven Chargers, 3-0, in a pitchers' duel that saw the two teams combine for only five hits on the chilly afternoon. UB is now 1-8 on the young season, and UNH remains unbeaten at 7-0.
Freshman Anthony Martino (West Sayville, N.Y.) was the hard-luck loser for the Purple Knights allowing a run in the bottom of first which was the only run New Haven would push across against him in six strong innings, in which he allowed only two hits with four strikeouts and two bases on balls.
The Chargers scored their other two runs off the UB bullpen in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Bridgeport's three hits came from graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.), senior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.) and sophomore Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.).
Up next, the Bridgeport baseball team opens its Spring Break trip to Florida with a four-game series at St. Leo that begins on Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m.
