Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team closed out its season-opening trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Sunday afternoon by scoring 18 runs on 18 hits and banging out five home runs, but it was not enough for the Purple Knights (1-4) who fell in a slugfest the took over four hours to play against the Clippers of Concordia (N.Y.) College, 20-18.
Senior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) crushed two home runs for UB on the day, going 3-for-5 at the plate.
Sophomore catcher Alex Rauso (Trumbull, Conn.) had a 4-for-6 day at the dish with three runs batted in and a home run.
Graduate student Tom Rinaldi (Waterbury, Conn.) drove in six runs on the afternoon blasting a grand slam home run, as he went 2-for-5 at the plate.
Senior Isaiah Rivera (Newington, Conn.) had a solo home run for UB, and freshman Logan Allen (Magnolia, Texas) continue his hot start to his first year in Purple and White with three hits on the day, and he also scored four runs.
Up next, the Purple Knights are scheduled to travel to Southern Connecticut State for a single game at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.
