Myrtle Beach, S.C.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team fell to Franklin Pierce University, 14-5, on Friday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. UB is now 0-2 on the young season; while FPU ups its mark to 2-0. The Purple Knights trailed by only two runs, 6-4, entering the top of the ninth inning before the Ravens blew the contest open with eight runs.
Junior catcher Aiden Burton (Milford, Conn.) blasted a home run for UB, and senior Jose Negron (New Haven, Conn.) plus freshman Logan Allen (Magnolia, Texas) each had two hits for the Purple Knights.
Along with Burton's solo homer, Bridgeport also got runs batted in from freshman Vincent DeRubeis (Trumbull, Conn.) and senior Isaiah Rivera (Newington, Conn.).
The Bridgeport baseball team will continue its season-opening road trip in South Carolina on Saturday with games versus Merrimack and Stonehill.
