Baseball Sees 2017 Season End With Loss To Molloy In ECC Championship Tournament
Purple Knights Fall To Lions, 6-4
Uniondale, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team saw its season come to an end on Friday, as the Purple Knights fell to Molloy College, 6-4, in an elimination game in the 2017 Easy Coast Conference Championship Tournament. UB ends its season at 19-25, and Molloy is now 21-28, as the Lions as eliminated St. Thomas Aquinas on Friday. Molloy will take on undefeated LIU Post on Championship Saturday.
Bridgeport fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but the Purple Knights, playing as the visitors, bounced back to score three runs in the third and one fifth to grab a 4-1 lead before the Lions rallied with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, and they added an insurance run in the eighth.
Junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) had two hits and two runs batted in for Bridgeport on Friday, and senior Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) also had two hits for UB, and he also knocked in one run.
Graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) drove in the Purple Knights' other run on Friday.
