Purple Knights Nipped By Queens (N.Y.), 5-4, In ECC Baseball Action
Same Two Teams Are Scheduled To Continue Their Weekend Series With A Doubleheader At Queens On Fridat At 12 Noon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team came back from a 4-0 deficit after the top of the second inning to tie the game at 4-4 with four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights plated a run on an errant throw in the top of the seventh inning and held on for a 5-4 East Coast Conference win at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Thursday afternoon. UB is now 17-22 overall and 11-11 in conference play. Queens ups its overall record to 17-21 and the Knights are now 9-13 in the ECC.
Senior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) had two hits, both doubles, for the Purple Knights, and junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) also had two hits for UB.
Senior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) and junior Stephen DiNicola (Rochester, N.Y.), each had one RBI for the Purple Knights on Thursday.
Freshman Matt Alicki (Milford, Conn.) was the hard-luck loser in relief for Bridgeport on Thursday, as worked 6.1 innings in which he allowed only three hits.
Graduate student Ray Kreiger (Derby, Conn.) finished the game off for the Purple Knights with 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in which he allowed only one hit.
The same two teams are scheduled to continue their four-game weekend series at Queens tomorrow afternoon with a 12 noon doubleheader in New York City.
