Senior Anthony Alicki Moves Into Top Spot On UB Career Wins List By Topping Queens (N.Y.) On Friday
Senior Now Has A UB-Best 14 Career Victories As Purple Knights Defeat QC, 12-4
Flushing, N.Y.-Senior Anthony Alicki (Milford, Conn.) moved into the top spot on the University of Bridgeport career wins list with all-time win number 14 in a UB uniform, as the Purple Knights snapped a five-game losing skid with a 12-4 East Coast Conference road win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights on Friday afternoon in New York City. UB is now 16-21 overall and an even 10-10 in the ECC. Queens slips to 14-19 overall and 8-13 in conference action.
On Friday, Alicki started and worked seven strong innings in which he allowed six hits and three runs with seven strikeouts and one walk. Anthony is now 4-2 on the season.
Junior Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y.) picked up his fourth save of the season working two scoreless innings to close out the contest.
The Purple Knights broke open a close game by scoring six runs in the top of ninth inning.
On offense for Bridgeport, senior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) had three hits, and classmate Tyler Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.) had two hits, including his first home run of 2017.
Junior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.) drove in a pair of runs for the winners on Friday.
Up next, the UB baseball team will host Mercy College at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
