Pomona, N.Y.-University of Bridgeport graduate student Zach Burger (Orlando, Fla.) blasted his fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the first inning, but that was all the scoring the visiting Purple Knights could muster on Friday night, as UB fell in an East Coast Conference game against the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans, 4-2. UB is now 15-17 overall and 9-6 in the ECC. STAC ups its overall mark to 24-12, and the Spartans are 8-4 in conference play.
With the game tied at 2-2, the host Spartans pushed across two run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-out, two-run bases loaded single by Greg Dawber.
Both teams will have a short night, as they will continue their four0game weekend series with a 12 noon doubleheader at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport.
