Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team picked up an impressive non-conference road win on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights traveled to Long Island and defeated the host Adelphi University Panthers, 5-2. UB is now an even 13-13 so far in 2017, and Adelphi sees its record move to 16-13.
The Purple Knights wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard on Tuesday, as junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) singled and came home on a double by senior Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.), who had two hits on the day.
Senior Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) also had two hits versus the Panthers, as did junior Ben Torres (Hollywood, Fla.), who also scored three runs and had one RBI.
On the mound, freshman Matt Alicki (Milford, Conn.) raised his season mark to 2-0, as he turned in a quality start going six innings in which he allowed five hits and one run with six strikeouts and two walks. Junior Dennis Berardi (Brewster, N.Y.) pitched the final three innings of the game to notch his second save of the year allowing only one run on two hits. Berardi fanned two and did not issue a base on balls in his three innings of work.
Up next, the UB baseball team will travel to Manchester, N.H. on Thursday afternoon to take on Southern New Hampshire University.
