Isaiah Rivera's Two-RBI Pinch Hit Single In The Eighth Lifts UB Baseball To 6-5 Home Win Over LIU Post
Purple Knights Rally From Being Down 5-2 After Five Innings For The ECC Victory
Bridgeport, Conn.-Pinch hitter Isaiah Rivera (Jr., Newington, Conn.) drove in two runs which proved to be the game-winning tallies with a one-out single in the bottom of the eighth inning on Monday afternoon, as the host University of Bridgeport baseball team rallied from a 5-2 deficit after five innings to defeat the visiting LIU Post Pioneers, 6-5, in an East Coast Conference contest played at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The victory, which gives the Purple Knights a split of the four-game series, lifts UB overall record to 12-13, and Bridgeport is now 7-5 in conference play. LIUP is now 14-13 overall and 6-4 in the ECC.
Junior Cam Overbaugh (Catskill, N.Y.) had three hits on the day for the winners, and senior Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) chipped in two hits for the winners.
Senior Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.) drove in two of the Purple Knights' six runs, and classmate Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) and junior Daren Grabowski (Berlin, Conn.), each had one RBI for UB.
On the mounds, graduate student Ray Kreiger (Derby, Conn.) picked up the win in relief for Bridgeport on Monday, and junior Andrew Oswald (St. James, N.Y.) worked a scoreless ninth to earn his third save of the 2017 season.
Up next, the UB baseball team travels to Adelphi University of a single, non-conference game on Tuesday afternoon.
