Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport baseball team banged out a total of 17 hits in its 2017 home opener on Sunday afternoon versus LIU Post, but the Purple Knights could only plate two runs, as UB fell to the visiting Pioneers, 3-2 in 11 innings in East Coast Conference action. UB is now 11-13 overall and 6-5 in the ECC. LIUP ups is season mark to 14-12, and they are 6-3 in conference play.
Seniors Dylan Steigerwald (Holbrook, N.Y.), Casey McCone (Milford, Conn.) and Dave Egeland (Toms River, N.J.) each had three hits on the afternoon for Bridgeport. Egeland and junior Stephen DiNicola (Rochester, N.Y.), who added two hits of his own, each had one RBI for UB.
The same two teams will close out their four-game series at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.
